Flashy Enforcement of Courtesy

As a hotel of a certain age, our corridors and walkways are narrow. Although we encourage guests to unwind and relax as they move throughout the building, it is sometimes necessary to request a little hustle. When the clubroom, spa, or guest hallways (especially on the 2nd floor) get crowded, a member of our reception team may don a satin sash and request that you move more quickly. We borrowed this protocol from the unlikeliest of sources—the game of golf. An avid golfer, our ballroom event coordinator Natalya told us that the “course marshal” enforces the flow of play to ensure that all visitors enjoy their game. Please do not take offense if you see the sash approaching, it is in the spirit of community and hospitality.

Welcome Updates to Our Food Menu

We have a new chef at Hotel Greene, and I could not be more excited. Charlie joined us in mid August and menu updates are in the works. For brunch, he’s talking eggs benedict and other poached delights, warm house cinnamon rolls, and topping stone-ground grits with something crave worthy. For evening, we’re going bold on seasonal Virginia produce and rejoicing in his long-brined wings. Your table is waiting.

Join us in the Lobby Bar for a switch to Fall Cocktails and Wednesday and Thursday evening extras:

• Steven is hard at work on his Fall Cocktail Menu, and I’m all in. For a preview, behold this caramel-colored beauty— Cynar, Irish Whiskey, vanilla liqueur, and maple syrup. Think 6pm and dusk, fireside on a comfortable couch in a cavernous Venetian apartment. You’re welcome.

• September 7th & 8th: we’re participating in Richmond Brunch Weekend (@richmondbrunch) for their citywide effort to rejoice in all things sweet and savory and raise money for the Richmond SPCA. We’re contributing $5 from every golf+ brunch deal enjoyed that weekend (and I’m personally raising a mimosa glass to how happy I am to live in a city that works together to help its animals in need). The folks at Richmond Brunch Weekend are hooking us up with fresh peaches, so expect some delicious compote for french toast and a classic Bellini.

• Thursday, September 12th: our monthly Complimentary Wine Tasting with the charismatic and enthusiasm-inducing Michael from Native Selections from 5p.

• September 15th— the deadline for our literary postcard contest is here. More information through the link below. Let the pen bring you some cathartic release (and 500 bucks! and a cake party!).

• All month long, as noted above, new kitchen menu items on offer— come sample and let us know what you think.

GHOST STORY

Oh, Klaus. All of our visitors seem to know the ever-present bellhop. Appearing from nowhere with a helping hand for luggage or a recommendation for the quietest hour to enjoy the pool, Klaus understands the little world that is Hotel Greene better than anyone. Despite his apparent youth, Klaus was here before I arrived and, I assume, will be here long after I am gone.

I will say this as nicely as I can. For you, dear guest, enjoy Klaus’ rosy cheeks and deferential assistance— and check out of the hotel with that impression. But, if you turn around too quickly and catch a glimpse of his smirk or happen to see him smoking out back with the spa attendants, do not be surprised. We — his co-workers and our longer-term residents like Mme. Blavatskaya— know his proclivities for minor cruelties and gossip. Like many in his trade, Klaus operates from a purely transactional worldview. Understand that and your secrets are forever safe. Unless, of course, a higher-paid opportunity arises that requires their sharing.
